Main cloud, electronic mail internet hosting supplier blames ransomware assault for outage

E-mail internet hosting supplier Rackspace Expertise confirmed on Tuesday {that a} ransomware assault is behind an outage that has been disrupting its electronic mail service since Friday. 

The corporate mentioned it has retained a cyber protection agency to analyze the assault and has since found that the incident solely impacted its Hosted Trade enterprise whereas its different services are totally operational.

Following the invention of the ransomware assault, Rackspace mentioned it took measures to comprise the incident from spreading to different companies.

“Out of an abundance of warning, Rackspace Expertise has put further safety measures in place and can proceed to actively monitor for any suspicious exercise,” Rackspace mentioned. 

The corporate added that the incident continues to trigger disruption and should end in a lack of income to its $30 million electronic mail service, in addition to some “incremental prices” tied to responding to the incident.  

Rackspace didn’t present particulars on who could be behind the assault, what they stole and what number of prospects have been impacted by the incident.
